Amazon has quietly opened up its Appstore to buyers outside of the U.S. No official press release was issued, but we’re hearing folks from Australia, Canada, India, South Africa, Venezuela and many European countries are able to access it and purchase apps. What’s more, the experience is identical to the U.S. Appstore and even includes the free app of the day.

So what do we make of it? For one thing, it seems to me Amazon is preparing for the upcoming Kindle tablet launch, which will obviously be available throughout the markets where Amazon is running its web store. Heck, they may even decide to expand their reach and hit smaller countries, offering them both the tablet and great selection of apps, which at the moment counts about 15,000 titles.

We’ll definitely keep watching for any additional information about the Kindle tablet and get back to you as soon as we hear something interesting. Stay tuned in the meantime, k?

Doesn’t seem to work with some of the operators in India. Can there be an operator-specific tie-up?
