Amazon has begun sending out invitations for a press event for next Wednesday, the 28th, and we’re betting that this be the official announcement of Amazon’s Android tablet(s) that we have been expecting all this time.
Ever since we got word that Amazon was working on a tablet, many people have claimed that it will be the first true competitor to Apple’s iPad. Why is this? Well, not only will there be more than one tablet available, both will be rocking some solid specs across the board and possibly be hundreds less than the insanely popular iPad. Throw in the fact that Amazon also has its own music store and the Android tablets are said to ship with a new Video On Demand service.
Amazon is closest to Apple when it comes to ecosystem. The combination of that and the possibility that said tablets will be significantly cheaper than the iPad makes it a challenger and not much more. Personally, I’d never really consider buying an Amazon tablet but we’ll just have to see what they bring to the table. It wasn’t until the introduction of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 that Android saw its first tablet that wasn’t way overpriced. Amazon could make existing tablets today look like expensive toys. Oh, wait.
Of course, this is nothing but speculation until we see what Amazon does reveal but we’d have a hard time believing there won’t be a new device of some sort announced. With rumors that the tablets may land sometime in October, everything seems to be lining up nicely and we’re sure we won’t leave the event unimpressed.
Is anyone looking forward to the Amazon tablets? If so, would you mind if they didn’t ship with the Android Market, and only used Amazon’s Android Appstore instead? That would be a deal breaker for me. Sound off in the comments!
