Toyota Motor Sales wants to ride the emerging augmented reality wave and is using junaio’s technology to beef-up its mobile apps for iPhone and Android devices. The sales arm of the giant car maker is also relying on Japanese virtual pop-star Hatsune Miku to get some love for its work. The end result is Miku performing on a virtual stage alongside the 2011 Toyota Corolla.
In order to see this for yourself, you’ll need to download the Toyota Shopping Tool app and scan the special 2D barcode (so called “ToyoTag”). As soon as you’re done with scanning, the 3D performance starts.
Those unfamiliar with Hatsune Miku should know she’s a fully synthesized vocal and visual character created by Crypton Future Media. Miku is so popular in Japan that her voice has been featured in more than 100,000 user-generated songs and videos. And now she’s the official representative of the 2011 Corolla. Sounds like “from pixels to fame” story to me. 😉
