Leak: Live photos of the Verizon HTC Rezound, what used to be called the Vigor, hit the web

Earlier this month both Samsung and LG announced Android smartphones that pack screens that can pump out an an impressive 1280 by 720 pixels. Now it’s HTC’s turn. Over the summer we got wind of a device called the HTC Vigor that was rumored to ship with a 4.3 inch 720p screen and a blistering fast 1.5 GHz dual core processor. Later we’d find out that it was going to come to Verizon’s network with the retail name “Rezound”. Today we have pictures of the beast, and it’s … there’s no pretty way to say this: The Rezound is quite possibly the ugliest smartphone to ever grace our screens. It looks too thick, it has a tacky chrome border, the large camera on the back, which will probably deliver stunning photos since it’ll be the same sensor that’s in the myTouch 4G Slide on T-Mobile, just looks plain weird, and yet there’s something that draws us to this thing. It’s going to come with 4G LTE, so you know it’s not going to have a problem streaming videos on the move, and that screen will likely make us cream our shorts. Samsung’s 720p smartphone has a 4.65 inch screen. LG’s 720p smartphone has a 4.5 inch screen. The Rezound, with a resolution of 720p at 4.3 inches, will be ridiculously sharp at 340 pixels per inch!

When exactly will this thing come out? No clue, but we have a sneaking suspicion that it’ll be available in time for the 2011 holiday shopping season. How much will it cost? Again, no clue, but judging by the capabilities the Rezound brings to the table, we wouldn’t be surprised to see it going for $300 with a 2 year contract. Should you buy one? If HTC Sense makes you want to slit your wrists, then no, stay away. The Nexus Prime will probably be better, assuming it has a 720p screen, since it’ll ship with the latest version of Android anyway, and there are of course no skins on top.
