You know how it goes – you get a new phone and suddenly realize you need to install all of your favorite apps once again. I recently got myself the Samsung Galaxy S II and before even turning it on, I decided to prepare a list of apps I’ll install on it. Without further ado, here’s a list of 30 apps I find essential:
- Advanced Task Cleaner – allows you to quickly kill running apps and free-up some memory
- AndroZip – for managing ZIP files
- AppMonster – app backup tool
- Astro – great file manager
- Audible – I’m a big fan of audiobooks
- Boxroid – box.net client which works better than box.net’s official app
- Chrome to Phone – beams web pages from Chrome browser to your phone
- ColorNote (widget) – simple homescreen note widget
- ConvertMe – unit converter
- Evernote – best note-taking service/app
- ezPDF – best PDF reader, much better than Adobe’s app
- Flashlight – for some reason Galaxy S II doesn’t come with a built-in flashlight app
- Foursquare
- GMarks – for accessing Google Bookmarks
- Goodreads – social network for books
- GTasks (widget) – Google Tasks widget
- IMDb – Internet Movie Database
- Listen – Google’s podcast app that syncs with Google Reader
- Picasa Tool – for managing Picasa photo galleries
- QuickPic – simple photo-editing tool
- ScanLife – barcode scanning app
- Skitch – Evernote’s image annotation apps
- Skype
- SmoothCalendar (widget) – super simple homescreen widget
- Thinking Space – mind mapping app
- Touch Calendar – GCal-like calendar app
- TripAdvisor
- WordPress
In addition, there’s the office suite (Polaris) that comes preloaded with the Samsung Galaxy S II — HTC smartphones rock Quickoffice. Moreover, you may notice some other icons on the image above like GetGlue and Taskos – I’m still playing with them and so I can’t included them to my must-have list.
Now I want to know which apps are essential for you. I guess Amazon’s Kindle could be on the list, but I don’t buy digital books that often (if ever)…
