Recently made available on Vodafone in the UK, the Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray is expanding its horizons into Canadian territory. Sony Ericsson has teamed up with Telus to bring the smartphone to Canada, though no details about pricing or dates were released.
The Xperia Ray is geared toward mobile entertainment junkies with its high-quality display and advanced camera. It features a 3.3-inch 854 x 480 screen, but don’t hate on the small size because Sony has all kinds of branding going on here. This is no ordinary display – this is the Reality Display coupled with a Mobile Bravia Engine. That 8.1 MP camera has Sony’s Exmor R sensor built-in for great photos in low-light conditions. I own a Sony Cyber-Shot camera with this sensor and it does take some sweet shots. There’s also a front-facing VGA camera for video calling. The Xperia Ray runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread, has Wi-Fi hotspot capability, and supports Adobe Flash 10. This is all packed inside a device just 9.4 mm thin – about the same as an iPhone 4. Design-wise, the Xperia Ray looks kind of similar to a Kyocera Echo.
Adding this Sony Ericsson smartphone to Telus gives the network’s holiday lineup a bit of a boost. Telus Vice President Brent Johnston had some kind words to share:
“The Sony Ericsson brand is synonymous with quality and innovation in the smartphone space, and has a strong fan base amongst TELUS customers, whom we expect to embrace the Xperia ray. It’s a powerful and elegant device.”
So now that the Xperia Ray is on Vodafone, Orange, and now Telus in Canada, what about you readers from the U.S.? If you’re interested in this seemingly fine piece of hardware, you can pick one up unlocked for the steep price of $424.99.
