AT&T launched a neat pack of mobile apps to help people who are blind or have low vision to use Android smartphones. The new AT&T Mobile Accessibility Lite is actually a custom version of the screen-access application, Mobile Accessibility (developed by Code Factory), and it’s a bundle of 11 different apps — including Phone, Contacts, SMS, Alarm, Calendar, Email, Web, Where Am I, Apps, Music Player and Settings.
Once downloaded, users can make the suite the device’s home screen and easily navigate through apps by moving their finger across the screen. The Nuance Vocalizer voice synthesis then reads the text under the finger, allowing users to perform any number of tasks, like answering a call, managing his/her contacts, writing an SMS, editing a calendar entry, sending an email, or accessing GPS to get an update on his/her current location.
