The IntoMobile team was extremely pumped for next Tuesday because we were supposed to see the Samsung Nexus Prime, Android Ice Cream Sandwich and maybe some more surprises. While these are still coming, it won’t come on Oct.11, as Samsung and Google have postponed the event.
According to a statement e-mailed out to the press:
Samsung and Google have decided to postpone the Samsung Mobile Unpacked event during the CTIA in San Diego, previously scheduled for Oct. 11.
Under the current circumstances, both parties have agreed that this is not the appropriate time for the announcement of a new product. We would ask for the understanding of our clients and media for any inconvenience caused. We will announce a new date and venue in due course.
It’s curious as to why this was postponed so close to the date, as maybe the Android Ice Cream Sandwich software wasn’t ready. I tend to think that it’s not really a hardware issue hopefully, as that would mean we could be facing a much longer delay.
Still, even if it is an Android Ice Cream Sandwich issue, you have to wonder why they didn’t go through with the event anyways, as they could have gotten through it with incomplete software. Google and Samsung appear to be waiting to show this device and software in the best possible light and while we’re disappointed we won’t see it tomorrow, we still cannot wait for this thing to become real.
Update: We’re hearing rumblings that the event will take place Oct. 27 in London. There’s no official confirmation on this but we’ll keep an eye on this.
A Google spokesperson said the event will be postponed out of respect to Steve Jobs, who passed away this week.
We believe this is not the right time to announce a new product as the world expresses tribute to Steve Jobs’s passing.
