LG Doubleplay press shots show secondary screen

LG looks to be setting up for a release of its new dual-screen handset dubbed the Doubleplay, to be sold by T-Mobile. A few months ago we reported about this same phone once it appeared in the wild, but with a black keyboard instead.

Besides having a secondary display to supplement the main 320 x 480 HVGA screen, the LG Doubleplay will carry Android 2.3 Gingerbread and sport a 5-megapixel shooter. At the moment other features and specs are unknown. It’s expected that this phone should release on the big sale day T-Mobile is planning on November 2, a day the carrier also plans to unveil several other handsets. Whenever this mid-level phone debuts, consumers will have the chance to get their hands on a device that sports two screens for easier access to important apps.

Honestly, I don’t really know what to make of these dual-screen phones. Manufacturers and carriers seem fascinated with the prospect of making and selling phones with more than one screen, which is a fad that hasn’t stuck with consumers as of yet. There have been a few dual-screen devices which have failed to grab people’s attention — Sprint’s Kyocera Echo is one that comes to mind.

Are you a fan of dual-screen smartphones?
