Samsung has decided to ratchet up the level of competition with Apple. The South Korea-based company will attempt to trump its iPhone 4S rival by offering up its popular Galaxy S II smartphone for just two bucks without a service contract (yes, you heard correct). This likely stems from Apple’s recent rejection of Samsung’s settlement offer, which would have allowed the manufacturer to push its products to Aussies without being litigated for patent infringements.
Samsung has set up a pop-up store just a hop skip and jump away from Apple’s Sydney store, all just for stealing the thunder from the iPhone 4S launch this Friday. Samsung will give the first ten customers each day up to Friday its Galaxy S II for just $2.
Samsung’s campaign will help draw a crowd, but it will be interesting to see how well they do with head-to-head sales. Offering two-dollar Galaxy S II’s to just 10 people per day isn’t even a speed bump when it comes to the locomotive that is the iPhone 4S. Honestly, I think Samsung just gets a kick out of pissing Apple off.
If you happen to be in Sydney, more details on the promotion are available here.
