SEGA’s Sonic the Hedgehog is no stranger to mobile. We’ve seen SEGA release a number of Sonic games on iOS, such as Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic 4, and even Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing. And it looks as though the Sonic mobile love will continue as SEGA is planning to re-release Sonic CD on iOS, Android, and Windows Phone later this year.
Sonic CD was originally released in 1993 on the SEGA CD system and was the first game to have Metal Sonic and Amy Rose debut. SEGA’s newest trailer for the Sonic CD announcement invites fans to “see where the Sonic 4 saga began,” which is exactly what I’ll be doing as I never played Sonic CD. I don’t even know anyone who owned a SEGA CD console, so I’m sure a lot of Sonic fans will be dying to experience their game on their mobile platform of choice.
No official release date or price point have been given for Sonic CD on iOS, Android, and Windows Phone, but we expect that information to be released when we get closer to the game’s “Late 2011” launch date window.
