I thought Siri on the iPhone 4S was an interesting first step in using our voice for controlling and interacting with computers but I felt frustrated whenever you hit its predefined limits. Thank goodness for the hackers and developers out there, as one enterprising fellow has created a way for Siri to control your home appliances.

The details are over on Twilio’s blog, but he essentially used about $500 worth of equipment and Twilio’s backend to make controlling devices in your house as easy as telling your phone to turn off the fan. While this makes for a neat, if essentially useless, tech demo, imagine where this could go in the future: you could soon be able to tell your lazy appliances to turn on while you’re driving home.

Check out the video below and the via link for a deeper explanation on this cool hack.
