Alcatel is preparing to launch a high-end-ish device at the upcoming Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. From what we’ve heard, the forthcoming OneTouch 995 will sport a big 4.3-inch touchscreen (most likely WVGA – 480×800 pixels), 5-megapixel camera on the back, 1.4GHz single-core processor, HSPA and Wi-Fi connectivity, while Android 2.3 Gingerbread will run the show. Moreover, the smartphone will get the Ice Cream Sandwich support at some point in the future, though it’s not clear when that will exactly happen.

We love to see more companies entering the high-end market, driving prices south in the process. However, it’s important to note that a single-core processor clocking at 1.4GHz may be good for Gingerbread, I’m not sure how it will cope with Ice Cream Sandwich – guess we’ll have to wait and see.

In the meantime, it’s good to see Alcatel re-committing to the Android OS and hopefully this won’t be the last time we’re hearing from them. ;)
