Nvidia reports good quarter thanks to mobile

Today, Nvidia posted some pretty good quarterly earnings that were ahead of what analyst expected. This news comes after the company’s announcement of its beastly Tegra 3 quad-core processor, that will be jammed into the world’s first device to carry it, the Asus’ Eee Pad Transformer Prime next month. The chipmaker reported earnings of $178.3 million, or 29 cents per share, on revenue of $1.07 billion for the three months ended Oct. 30, while expected earnings were suppose to be around 26 cents per share, on revenue of $1.06 billion, according to First Call.

Discussing the company’s successful quarter, CEO Jen-Hsun Huang said in a statement:

“NVIDIA’s strategy is coming into its own, as the world becomes increasingly visual and mobile.” He continued saying “Our GPU business accelerated in the third quarter, driven by strong demand from gamers and the professional market. And our mobile business benefited from new devices coming onto the market.”

It’s nice to see Nvidia keep things steady, as it readies itself for complete domination with Tegra 3 devices set to hit stores early next year. This may be great news for those of us who love powerful devices, but it’s yet to be seen if games and apps will catch up in performance quality. Is anyone running to their nearest Best Buy to purchase the Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime when it drops?
