If you’ve been playing video games, then you’ll instantly recognize the name “Asteroids.” But can you believe there’s a whole slew of whippersnappers out there that don’t know what Asteroids is? Instead of shaking your cane at them in disgust, you can now yell at those kids to go download the new Asteroids: Gunner game from Atari, as well as to get off your lawn a quit making a ruckus all the time.

Asteroids: Gunner brings the classic Asteroids formula to the modern-age on iOS as the game has much improved graphics, dual-stick controls, and is completely free-to-play. You’ll take the role of a gunner who blasts his way through deadly asteroid fields and alien ships in order to mine for crystals. Crystals you collect can then be used to purchase upgrades for one of three available ships, and of course, if you need crystals to upgrade your ships asap, you can always opt to purchase them. Asteroids: Gunner has three galaxies to play across with 150 waves of asteroids and alien ships to blow up into teeny tiny pieces.

Developer Fluik Entertainment, who you may have heard from their previous title Office Jerk, promise a turn-based multiplayer Challenge Mode will be released in the game’s first update, which is expected to be released later this year. For now, you have 150 waves that will certainly keep you busy until that update goes live.

This game is horrible and I can’t understand why. With names like  Fluik Entertainment and Atari behind it I expected some excitement, but no. There are other meteor games out there that do a much better job.
