Just a quick update on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus‘ 1.3 front-facing camera – it can record in 720p HD. While the feature is hardly a big deal, it’s something that hasn’t been reported before as far as we know. The video below is a walkthrough of the Galaxy Nexus’ camera software and the 720p video sample can be found below as well.
If you want to cut the fat and go to the front-facing camera bit, fast forward to about 3:50 in the video. Sure, it’s a cool option to have but I have my doubts that many people would forgo the rear facing camera in favor of the 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera. Maybe they will. It’s a nice option to have and will at least come in handy for video chatting.
One of the best things about the camera software in Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is the live video effects that can be applied to both front and rear facing cameras. There’s no functional use to them but it’s definitely welcomed and nice to see Google’s playful side pop up in the most unique ways.
Does the fact that the front-facing camera can record in 720p ease the fact that the Galaxy Nexus sports a 5 megapixel camera instead of a 8 megapixel camera? Do you care? Didn’t think so.
