If you recall, the Samsung Galaxy Xcover S5690 is the Korean company’s rugged version of the Galaxy S, though not as powerful as the original (non-rugged) smartphone. To be fair, it’s not like we wondered when it will be released, but it’s kinda nice to know when you can buy one.
Well, it’s almost here, with British phone retailer Handtec taking pre-orders as we speak and will start shipping the first units at some point in December. They ask 224.39 GBP (about $351) for the unlocked Galaxy Xcover that comes with no strings attached. Sounds fair, but I’m sure you’ll be able to get the same phone for free as soon as it hits portfolios of mobile operators in the UK.
As a reminder, Sammy’s IP67 certified device comes with a 3.65-inch HVGA Gorilla Glass touchscreen, HSDPA and Wi-Fi connectivity, 3.2-megapixel camera with auto-focus and flash, 800MHz processor, GPS, Bluetooth 3.0, microSD memory card slot, while Android 2.3 Gingerbread is running the show.
