The great folks at iFixit have torn down the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and found the world’s first Ice Cream Sandwich phone is packed full of power but it may be a bit tricky to repair.
We know that the Samsung Galaxy Nexus sports a 1.2 GHz TI OMAP processor, a 4.65-inch 720p screen and NFC, so iFixit confirmed that by cracking it apart. The company gave the Galaxy Nexus a 6 on its “repairability scale,” which is an above-average grade, but not by much.
The rear case is very difficult to pry off, iFixit said, and you’d better be mindful not to drop the device because, “the glass is fused to both the display and the display frame. So don’t crack the glass unless you’re good with a heat gun, or you’re fond of replacing the glass, display, and frame together.” On the positive side, battery replacement is easy and it should be relatively simple to fix or replace the headphone jack or speakers.
This is all the nitty gritty stuff and let’s hope you actually won’t have to face a situation where your Galaxy Nexus is broken. Feel free to check out our impressions of the Ice Cream Sandwich superphone and we’ll have a full review up for you shortly.
