Dual SIM devices don’t get a lot of love in North America, but they’re huge in many Asian countries and in several parts of Europe. Why should people limit themselves to just having one number? Better yet, if some operators offer better deals on texting and calling to subscribers who are on the same network, then why would someone who makes as much money in a month as you’ll make during work today not want to take advantage of those offers? Nokia was late to the dual SIM game, mainly because of political reasons. They didn’t want to upset their operator partners, who most certainly don’t want people to switch networks just to save a few pennies here and there. That adds up when you take into account that the combined population of India and China hovers around 2.5 billion. Times have changed however and Nokia has a portfolio of dual SIM devices out on the market, their latest being the X2-02 that we covered just last week.
The most important dual SIM device that Nokia currently sells however is the Asha 200. Announced at Nokia World in October, this thing was designed for the emerging markets. It features a QWERTY keyboard, hot swap SIM card slot, and has integrated social networking. Check out the ad for the device above, which was made by Fallon London, who has also created an ad (below) for the C2-03. These videos will air in India, the Philippines, Nigeria, and Brazil according to The Nokia Blog. We can’t help but think that if Nokia came up with the same type of innovative marketing for their Lumia Windows Phones, then they’d actually have a fighting chance at gaining some of their lost share in the smartphone market back.
What say you, thumbs up for these cute weird funky ads or are they too out there?
