iPhone for Verizon Wireless – is it better than other versions?

Another day, another question to answer. This time one of our readers asked me whether the iPhone 4S sold by Verizon Wireless is any better than what two other big carriers (AT&T and Sprint) are offering.

The short answer is – NO! You’ll get the best experience with AT&T’s iPhone 4S because it’s the only one that supports simultaneous voice and data. While iPhone 4S sold by Sprint and Verizon Wireless rely on a CDMA network, AT&T’s version connects to a GSM one, which allows this capability [data and voice at the same time]. In real-life this means that you’ll still be getting push notifications from the web even when you’re in the middle of a call.

But that’s just one part of the story. If you’re not living in the area with good AT&T coverage, forget about it. Getting a Verizon or Sprint’s iPhone is a better choice. And finally, when you consider that Verizon’s has America’s largest high-speed wireless network – it’s most likely than not you’ll want their iPhone 4S. This is especially true if you’re travelling a lot.

The prices are the same across all carriers, with the original iPhone 4 costing $99.99, iPhone 4S 16GB – $199.99, iPhone 4S 32GB – $299.99, and iPhone 4S 64GB – $399.99.
