After Engadget pointed out that the AT&T 4G LTE network is partially live in San Francisco, I just had to give it a whirl. Well friends, I can tell you it’s definitely running and that it’s amazingly fast.
As you can see by the headline image, the “4G LTE” logo in the top right is active and the speeds are pretty blazing. Multiple speed tests gave me an average of more than 15 Mbps down and the crazy thing is that these tests haven’t even been in an area where I get all of the bars. I’m going to hold off on updating some of our 4G LTE reviews or doing some hardcore comparisons against Verizon because it’s not fair yet. This could just be a test network but it’s a good sign that full coverage is on the way.
I was able to get the AT&T 4G LTE network in San Francisco on the Samsung Skyrocket but oddly enough, the Nitro HD is not picking up the LTE in the same spots. In fact, it has more bars of the normal HSPA+ 4G coverage.
So, if you have an AT&T 4G LTE device in San Francisco, run some speed tests and let us know what you’re seeing.
