To say that Verizon has completely screwed the launch of the Galaxy Nexus is a pretty big understatement but at the same time, it’s not the first time Big Red has made a mess of a highly anticipated handset release this year. Luckily, it seems that some Radio Shack stores already have the phone in stock.
We first got word of this when Joshua Topolsky sent out the tweet below, so we decided to do our own research.
I called up a few Radio Shack stores and two of the three indeed had a few Verizon Galaxy Nexus units in stock. One store informed me that although they do have the handset in stock, it’s currently impossible to sell the device. This may be true but it’s entirely possible that you may be able to weasel your way into getting a misinformed Radio Shack employees to give up the goods. Of course, we’re not encouraging you to badger these people but you may be able to walk out with a Galaxy Nexus of your own today.
While everything is still in the air until specified otherwise, we definitely wouldn’t be surprised if the Galaxy Nexus is released this week. Whatever issues are surrounding the release, Verizon best not turn this into the Bionic all over again. We’re going to assume there is a genuine problem with the handset, (likely LTE doing what it does best, killing batteries) as you don’t delay handsets for hype. That only works for Apple.
With December 15th being the latest rumored release date, you may be happy by just waiting to see what this Thursday brings. However, if you just can’t wait for the Verizon Galaxy Nexus and haven’t smartened up to try to grab the thinner, unlocked GSM version, you should try your luck at your local Radio Shack and see what they can do for you.
Have you called your local Radio Shack yet?
