Earlier this month we reported on a rumor that said Verizon was going to release an update to the Motorola Droid RAZR called the RAZRMAX. Said rumor was started because someone spotted a few photos on an image sharing site that had RAZRMAX in the EXIF data and because some random dude in an online forum said a Verizon employee told him to wait for the RAZRMAX if he’s concerned about the battery life that today’s RAZR devlivers. Now we have something a bit more concrete. According to the folks at Droid Life, the image you see below is of an internal Verizon computer showing that the “Motorola DROID RAZR Maxx” is due to be released on the 15th of December. Problem is that date has already passed, but Droid Life contends that said date isn’t even a release date, it’s something else all together. What exactly … we don’t know.

So what’s the RAZR Maxx all about anyway, what makes it so special? When Motorola launched the RAZR in China they gave it a huge upgrade in terms of specs. The 8 megapixel camera that the Verizon RAZR has got bumped up to 13 megapixels. And the screen, on the Verizon RAZR it’s 4.3 inches across and pushes 960 x 540 pixels. The Chinese variant has a screen that’s 4.5 inches across and it does full blown 720p, meaning 1280 x 720 pixels. Will America get the Chinese RAZR or will America simply get a fatter RAZR that can go for more than 12 hours without needing to be recharged? Also, will this new RAZR run Ice Cream Sandwich?

Anyway, expect to hear more about this device as we approach CES; it’s a little more than 3 weeks away! We’re looking forward to a whole swath of of handsets being announced at the event, most notably Nokia’s first Windows Phone.
