It was over a year ago when SEGA released Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I, and as we all assumed given that it was the first episode, a second episode would follow. SEGA today has announced we will, in fact, be seeing Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II on iOS, but Android users will also be able to join in on the Sonic the Hedgehog 4 goodness for the first time.
Going by the new teaser trailer SEGA released today, it looks like Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II will see the “rebirth of a villain,” which could only mean Sonic will be going up against Metal Sonic again given the teaser outline and glowing red eyes. Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II will also see the triumphant return of one of Sonic’s greatest sidekicks of all time, Tails. The teaser also says the game will contain “all new surprises” with a graphic of Sonic & Tails performing a unified spin dash attack.
Having Sonic CD release a couple of weeks ago was definitely a good move on SEGA’s part as it serves as a way to re-introduce Metal Sonic to a new audience to prepare them for his “rebirth” in Sonic 4: Episode II. Metal Sonic has been featured in a number of other Sonic titles, but I’m sure not many gamers knew of his origins or have had first-hand experience with Sonic CD.
Android gamers should also be excited about today’s announcement as it shows another big name publisher has shown their continued support of the Android platform. The Android version of Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II will support Android mobile devices that have an NVIDIA Tegra mobile processor, but the game won’t be completely exclusive to Tegra devices. Just know that if you have an Android device with a Tegra chip inside of it, your device will most likely be supported from the get-go. SEGA and NVIDIA are also working together to offer an even more enhanced version of Sonic 4: Episode II for Tegra 3 powered devices.
