A report from AllThingsD claims Apple is holding an event at the end of January in New York City. According to their source, the event won’t be about the iPad 3 or the rumored Apple-branded TV, but will be a media related shin dig. Eddy Cue, Apple’s SVP of Internet Software and Services, is supposedly involved in the announcement.

The topic for the event is a big mystery. The media-related theme and presence of Cue suggests the announcement is tied into iTunes, the iBookStore, iCloud or the App Store. Apple has already moved music into the cloud with iCloud and  iTunes Match, so it’s possible this service is expanding to TV or movies. Apple may also announce a deal with a media company that’ll bring their content to the iTunes or iOS, similar to what it did with News Corps’ The Daily. Until more details emerge, we can only speculate on the news Apple is preparing to deliver.
