It wouldn’t be CES 2012 without NVIDIA whetting our appetites for one of its Tegra 3 devices and Asus just teased a 7-inch Android Ice Cream Sandwich with the quad-core Tegra 3 chip for a cool $249.
While we didn’t get much about hard specs, we really know the things that matter: Android 4.0, a blazing-fast Tegra 3 and an extremely attractive price. The Kindle Fire and Nook Tablet are selling like hotcakes mainly due to the prices but neither device is really cutting edge. With a price that’s only $50 more than the Kindle Fire, this Asus Ice Cream Sandwich tablet could be an awesome way to dive into the tablet market.
Of course, the Nook and Kindle Fire are successful because of the rich ecosystem around them and that’s where the Android Ice Cream Sandwich part of the equation may help settle that, at least in the apps front. The 4.0 version of Android brings more unity for app developers, so this Asus tablet could be filled with high-quality apps soon.
There’s no date on it yet but we’ll try and squeeze some more information out of it over the course of the next few days.
