ARCHOS 35 Smart Home Phone, which was announced back in June of last year, is finally available for purchase in the UK directly from ARCHOS. The price is 130 GBP (about $201) and that money gets you an Android-based home phone with front-facing camera, allowing for IP-based video calls with apps like Skype.
Now you may wonder – why would anyone need an Android-based home phone? Well I would like one. That said, I’m not a big fan of ARCHOS’ product because its screen sucks, but other than that – I like the idea of using the same device for both local calls and VoIP-based ones. Moreover, Bluetooth connectivity is also a big plus in my book, though I know there are some other non-smart home phones that support the use of an external, “unwired” headset, as well.
Again, the ARCHOS 35 Smart Home Phone’s specs include a 1GHz TI-made processor, 3.5-inch touchscreen with weird 272×480 pixels resolution, while Android 2.2 Froyo is running the show. You can get it directly from ARCHOS from here.
