Netflix said that its movie-streaming service is now on more than 800 devices and that viewing on tablets has surpassed viewing on PCs.
The tablet space will likely continue to be important for Netflix and it has done a good job of tailoring its apps to fit better on these types of devices. The value of Netflix on a phone always seemed more of a novelty to me because the screen size kind of limited its usefulness but being able to stream your movies on a large-screen tablet definitely makes sense to me and a lot of other Netflix users.
“We do see people enjoying a lot more of their viewing on tablets relative to the PC,” Netflix CEO Reed Hastings said during the company’s earnings call, according to GigaOm.
The bulk of the streaming service for Netflix is still on devices directly connected to TVs or on the smart TVs themselves. The company’s service is now on more than 800 gizmos and that’s quite a rise, as GigaOm points out that the number was 450 about six months ago.
