We don’t usually write about ultrabooks, but after our team has attended Dell’s Create.Work.Inspire event, I decided to rant about it. Plus, we are talking about ultra-portable devices here, and that’s somewhat related to mobile, right?
So what are the things you should know about this type of laptops?
- Ultrabooks are thin and light – and as such they look sexy.
- Most of them look like a MacBook Air – but they’re running Windows (rather than Mac OS).
- They usually have SSD instead of a classic hard drive – making sure they’re fast, though some of them use hybrid drives (one Acer Aspire S3 model).
- They are made out of metal – again, they resemble MacBook Air with metal (aluminum, magnesium or some other alloy) giving them luxury look and feel.
- They usually have a 13.3-inch screen though there are some models with smaller (Asus Zenbook UX21) and bigger screens (HP will make a 14-inch ultrabook).
- They are made to take you through the day with their battery lasting 8 hours on average.
- Ultrabooks use Intel’s processors, namely Core i3, Core i5 and Core i7. The last mentioned is fastest. They also come with Intel’s graphics sub-system HD 3000.
Finally in case you care to know, Ultrabook is a trademark of Intel, which hopes to see this kind of computers selling in hundreds of millions during the next couple of years.
And in our next article on the subject, we’ll help you select the perfect ultrabook. Stay tuned…
