Facebook is updating its Windows Phone app to version 2.3 today with new features, bug fixes, and some redesigned features. It brings Facebook Pages, Groups, the ability to view likes, news feed filters, banner images, and privacy settings for individual posts to your WP7 device. Aside from new stuff, Facebook redesigned profile pages and panoramas and improved news feed performance and navigation. The bug fixes are also a given in just about any app update.
Facebook for Windows Phone is generally behind the respective app for Android and iOS in terms of features, mostly because the Windows Phone platform is much less popular (although growing rather quickly.) The design is also very different from that of iOS, Android, and Facebook’s mobile web app. iOS and Android have somewhat similar styles in design, while Windows Phone’s unique Metro UI demands its own touch of style in apps. However feature-wise, the 2.3 update should help Windows Phone catch up with the competing operating systems.
As of the beginning of February, Facebook has 425 million active mobile users — that’s about half of the 850 million total active users. Of the mobile users, only 1.2 million are using the Windows Phone app at least once per month.
