Video-on-demand service provider Voddler has teamed-up with Dolby Laboratories to launch the world’s first mobile movie-streaming service for smartphones using Dolby Digital Plus audio, providing users with “truly immersive 5.1 personal surround sound movie experience over any headphones.” At the moment that doesn’t include many devices, hence the service starts with support for select Nokia phones like the Nokia 700, Nokia 701, Nokia 603, and the new Nokia 808 PureView smartphone, as well as the MeeGo-powered N9.

In order to use the service, a dedicated app has been released in the Nokia Store. Available as a free download, it is initially catered toward users in select European markets, including Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland. Then, if it gets decent traction, I’m sure Voddler will hit other countries throughout the world. Moreover, I’m pretty sure they’re working on mobile clients for other platforms as we speak. We’ll let you know when we hear something new on this…

Beside of the fact, that you need to have one of these phones and the movies, what about extra HW ? Is the standard stereo headphone enough ? Or do I need to have a special one. As you have to remember e.g. N9 does only provide an analog headphone plug

It should work with regular headphones as far as I understood…
