Well, unless Samsung has a sick April fools joke in-store for us, the company has made it known that it doesn’t plan on releasing the latest iteration of its flagship phone, the Samsung Galaxy S III next month. The Korean-based manufacturer set the record straight on Twitter, putting an end to all speculation of the device being both announced and released in the month of April.
This news is a kill joy if this is in fact true, as the company has all of its loyalists in the palm of its hands, waiting in anticipation. The GSIII will be well worth the wait if the rumors are anywhere close to reality; the handset is expected to feature a 1.5GHz quad-core Exynos processor, a 4.8-inch 1080p display, an 8-megapixel camera, and an iPhone 4-like ceramic body.
Truth is, this whole thing is a little bizarre if you follow the typical Galaxy S announcements and release time frames of the past, as the Galaxy S II dropped officially this time last year and then started shipping a few months later in April/May. While Sammy continues to be hush-hush on when we can expect to see its latest and greatest, an official launch date is anyones best guess at this point.
We wouldn’t at all be surprised if Samsung holds back all announcements of the Galaxy S III, until the iPad 3 circus dies down. Logically, it would make more business sense to kick off any marketing of the upcoming GSIII well after the release of Apple’s wildly popular tablet — this lets the company get all the attention it needs.
