Mad magazine fans can rejoice because the magazine is now available on Newsstand for iPad as of yesterday.
It’s filled with all the usual rude and satirical humor it’s best known for, yet you know you just can’t help but laugh at it. Best of all, it’s really cheap. Each new issue is $4.99, old issues are $1.99, and a full year subscription is just $9.99.
The per-issue price is cheaper than their printed counterparts which cost $5.99 for the new and $4.99 for the old. There’s only six issues per year, but that’s still more money in your pocket. Current print subscribers also get free access to the iPad version.
If you’re new to Mad like I am, you’ll be happy to know there is a preview version available for free if you’re considering purchasing a subscription. It’s only four or so pages of the latest issue, but I did manage to get a few chuckles out of the jokes about The Hunger Games and TV sitcom Mike & Molly — the two main characters of which are pictured above in the February 2012 issue. For only $10 per year, it’s definitely worth considering.
Mad Magazine’s app works similar to most of the iPad magazines. You swipe left or right to flip between articles and scroll up and down on a particular article to continue reading it. Tapping once on the screen brings up the menu and a way to visually scroll through articles at a glance.
