Pantech Vega Racer 2: 4.8 inch 720p Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 running beast

Pantech may be known as a budget brand in America, but in their home country of South Korea it’s a completely different story. Today they’re proving that yet again with the announcement of the Vega Racer 2. For those of you who don’t remember the first version of the Racer, it’s pretty much the Samsung Galaxy S II, except with an IPS display instead of AMOLED. Anyway, back to the sequel, it’s being touted as the “world’s first smartphone with a ceramic body”. That alone is impressive enough, but then there’s the spec sheet: 4.8 inch 720p LCD, dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4, and there’s even 4G LTE to boot. This device will likely never leave South Korea, but it’s still nice to see what’s being sold on the other side of the world.

The big question is, of corse, how will this thing stack up to the Samsung Galaxy S III? Rumor has it that Samsung’s next flagship device be announced in late May, it too will have a ceramic body, and it’ll also have a 4.8 inch 720p display, though it’ll be AMOLED based. We don’t know too much else about it. There are a few “leaked” images floating around the internet, but they’re probably fake. And as for the processor that’ll be at the heart of the Galaxy S III, some say it’ll be a quad core version of Samsung’s next generation Exynos chip. Others say it’s going to be quad core. Everyone agrees that 4G LTE will be built-in, but again, there’s so much misinformation out there that it’s tough to separate the truth from the bullshit.

If you’re seriously considering buying the HTC One X, then you owe it to yourself to just keep your wallet shut for another month and a half. Be patient, you can do it!
