ChangeWave Research conducted a very brief survey asking one simple question: if you’re buying a new smartphone within the next 60 days, which vendor do you plan on buying from? The firm surveyed exactly 4,413 consumers and found that — prepare yourself for these utterly shocking results — Apple’s iPhone is the highest in demand by far.
ChangeWave put the data for March 2012 on a chart and compared it to the last survey, which took place in December 2011. As of the most recent survey, 56 percent of respondents said they will be buying an iPhone from Apple within 60 days. Believe it or not, that’s actually increased from the 54 percent in December, meaning demand for the iPhone 4S is still climbing after six months on the market. 56 percent is the second highest level of interest ChangeWave has ever recorded.
Next in line comes the wave of Android phone manufacturers and they don’t even come close to Apple. Samsung garnered 13 percent of the survey participants buying a smartphone, which is stable from December. Motorola lost one percent from December and now has 6 percent of people swinging in its direction and HTC takes 3 percent, same as last time. Android accounts for approximately 22 percent of the vote.
Finally we get to sad little RIM. 3 percent of voters showed interest in a BlackBerry within 60 days, but hey, that’s up from only 2 percent in December’s survey. Unfortunately, as you’ll see in this next graph, consumer demand for BlackBerrys as compared to iPhones has dramatically fallen over the past few years.
So as the story goes, the vast majority of consumers still want an iPhone and demand continues on an upward trend. Oh, and that’s without a 4-inch display.
