Samsung announces Galaxy Tab 2 pricing, 7-inch starts at $249

Samsung announced  the pricing for its Galaxy Tab 2 tablets and the pair have a remarkably low price that starts at $249. The 7-inch model has a 1GHz dual-core processor, 3-megapixel rear camera, VGA front camera, 1024 x 600 display, and Android 4.0. The 10.1-inch model shares the same basic specs as the 7-inch model, but swaps out the 7-inch display with a 10.1-inch display that supports a 1280 x 800 resolution.

The hardware is not exceptionally better than previous generation tablets, but this is exactly what Samsung wanted. “These devices were not intended to be a dramatic change in terms of hardware from the existing Galaxy Tabs because frankly we feel that the hardware on the existing Galaxy Tabs is still extremely competitive and still industry leading,” said Travis Merrill, Samsung’s director of tablet marketing.

Samsung didn’t boost the hardware, but it did work some magic with the price. The Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 is available for $249, while the 10.1-inch Tab 2 will retail for $399. Samsung will start taking pre-orders in the US for the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 starting today and the device will go on sale April 22. The Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 will be available for pre-order starting May 4th and will go on sale May 13th.
