The number of people using iPads to replace laptop and netbook devices in the enterprise is on the rise. These days, in almost every meeting I go to, one of the participants pulls out an iPad to take notes, browse meeting materials, or (more likely) play Angry Birds Space. Okay, maybe not that last one. While the on-screen keyboard on the iPad is good, most people who actually want to do work on the iPad need a keyboard.
There are certainly no shortage of Bluetooth keyboards available for the iPad, but Logitech’s model may take the cake. Logitech has come out with the Ultrathin Keyboard Cover, an accessory that is part Bluetooth keyboard, part Smart Cover. The Keyboard Cover attaches to your iPad 2 or iPad (3rd generation) via a magnetic clip that latches on to built-in magnets in the iPad. When connected, the Keyboard Cover props up your device in landscape mode via a built-in groove on the keyboard, and doubles as a smart case which wakes/sleeps your iPad when you open/close the lid as you would any laptop.
Logitech’s Ultrathin Keyboard Cover won’t come cheap (of course), and will set you back $99.99. That said, the dual purposed accessory could be well worth it for you if you do a lot of document, spreadsheet, and presentation work. Logitech is accepting pre-orders of the Ultrathin Keyboard Cover now, though no information was given as to when the accessory would be released. I’ve reached out to Logitech, and will update this story if a firm release date is given.
Who out there plans on picking one of these keyboard covers up?
