JCB thinks there are people out there looking for tough Android smartphones. To that end they’ve already launched a special version of Motorola DEFY+, but that’s obviously not enough — if CAT can have its own-branded device, so can JCB.
Enter JCB Toughphone Pro-Smart, which is arguably the toughest and definitely one of the ugliest smartphones out there. However, it’s a mediocre device under the hood, sporting a single-core 800MHz processor, 3.2-inch HVGA touchscreen, HSPA and Wi-Fi connectivity, 5-megapixel rear-facing camera, front-facing one, GPS, while Android 2.3 Gingerbread is running the show.
Then again, the idea of a rough device like this one is not in the feature set per se. In that sense, as an IP67-rated device, the JCB Toughphone Pro-Smart will survive being dropped in water (though for short periods of time), and can also take a few knocks more than your regular phone.
Finally the price – British Clove is offering the JCB Toughphone Pro-Smart for 310 GBP…
