Once upon a time, the T-Mobile G2X had promise that no other Android phone had. The US variant of the world’s first dual-core phone was met with a lot of praise, which turned into a mess. The stupid powerful handset suffered from handfuls of bugs, which resulted in it being pulled from shelves, only to return with minimal improvements. Well, it looks like the handset may finally be receiving the update it needed out of the gate – literally over a year since its release.
One of the most reported bugs for the handset was that it would reboot randomly. After updates said to address the bug, among others, said bugs still remain and even the likes of CyanogenMod couldn’t completely address them. After exactly one year and three days after the G2X landed on store shelves, the update is finally here and will begin to roll out to handsets very soon. However, if you can’t wait any longer, you can manually update your phone using the LG Update Utility.
The OTA update starts today and will go until May 15th. On May 15th, LG will release the update on its website.
While this post should actually be about the T-Mobile G2X getting the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update, users will unfortunately still be stuck on Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread. Then again, with so many issues surrounding the handset, this can’t be that surprising. Nonetheless, we suppose that it’s a good thing that the G2X may finally be stable and we can only hope that this isn’t the last update it sees in its lifetime. Though it just might be.
Here’s to the G2X finally getting an update users wanted, even if it’s not the exact update they may have wanted.
