We’re all expecting the next iPhone to have 4G LTE support and many of you may be wondering what this will mean for your data caps. Well, Sprint CEO Dan Hesse is saying that the next iPhone on Sprint will continue to have unlimited data even if it has 4G.
“I’m not anticipating the unlimited plan would change by that point,” Hesse said in an interview with Sprint. “That’s our distinctive differentiator.”
Sprint’s CEO didn’t confirm that the next iPhone would have LTE but he did say that if it did, he expected all the carriers to have that capability. Sprint is far behind the 4G LTE game compared to Verizon and AT&T but it’s just starting to get the ball rolling. Even if the next iPhone doesn’t come out until October, we don’t expect Sprint’s LTE network to be that large.
Still, having an unlimited data plan may become even more important on an iPhone with 4G LTE. If you think it’s easy to blow through 2 GB of data with 3G, just wait until LTE makes it easier to stream HD videos or download massive apps in a short period of time. While the Sprint LTE footprint likely won’t be as large as the competition at the launch of the next Apple smartphone, it should be robust by the time the contract ends.
Is having an unlimited data plan an important factor for you with the next iPhone?
