Verizon Wireless is unveiling some new goodies for its prepaid customers today. Starting today, there’s a refreshed set of monthly data plans for both smartphone and hotspot users to choose from.

The first change is for Verizon’s prepaid smartphone users. A new data plan available starting May 1st bundles unlimited talk and text messaging plus 1GB of data for $80 per month. Not too shabby, right? The plan will only be valid with the prepaid Samsung Illusion, but presumably as Verizon starts offering more prepaid smartphones, you’ll have a wider selection of devices compatible with this plan. The Samsung Illusion will be just $169.99 and that’s without a two-year contract. You can buy it through Verizon Wireless now and it will also roll out to Best Buy, Target, RadioShack, and Walmart in a few weeks.

Next is for mobile hotspot customers. Beginning May 1st, folks who buy a Verizon Jetpack 4G LTE Mobile Hotspot MiFi 4510L (annoying for me to type and you to read) prepaid hotspot can choose between three new data plans. On the low end, there’s an option of $15 for a weekly 250MB of data. Then there’s $60 for a monthly 3GB of data and $90 for a monthly 10GB of data. All the plans support connectivity with Verizon’s 4G LTE network. The MiFi can share its connection with up to five separate devices and will be available within a few weeks for $129.99 at Verizon Wireless and the aforementioned stores.

The fresh set of smartphone and mobile hotspot plans offer a nice selection for prepaid Verizon Wireless customers. The Samsung Illusion bundle, in particular ,should be good for entry-level smartphone users who prefer to the prepaid route.
