ABI Research: Smartphone users with a retailer-branded app are better customers

ABI Research has recently looked at the connection between smartphone users who have a retailer-branded app installed and their behavior toward retailers. The results are promising for retailers, with 45.8% of respondents saying the app caused them to visit the store more, buy more of the store/brand’s products and services (40.4%), spread the word about their store shopping experience (35.8%), and even encourage friends to visit the store (30.8%).

However, only 25% of the respondents said they’ve downloaded a retailer-branded app, making us think the picture could be very different if more people have retailer-branded apps running on their smartphones. Moreover, 37.9% of the respondents said downloading a retailer’s branded app caused them to download other retailer-branded apps. In other words, it is necessary that retailers and brands have solid apps that are better than their competitors’…
