Nokia announced that its ebook service Nokia Reading is now open for business in France, Germany, Italy, Russia, Spain and the UK, with other countries to follow later in the year. Available from the Nokia Collection in Marketplace, the new offering can be used by owners of Nokia Windows Phones, including Lumia 900, 800, 710 and 610.
The initial version focuses on making it easy for you to find, buy and read a book in your own language. There are a large number of local titles to choose from, free-to-download international classics, as well as popular English titles such as One Day and The Adventures Of Sherlock Holmes, with more being added all the time.
Nokia says reading ebooks on its devices is a good experience thanks to the ClearBlack Display that helps reduce reflections on the screen, and Microsoft’s ClearType technology which renders fonts cleanly, without jagged curves. The type is resizable, too, so it can be as big as your eyesight requires. In addition, there’s the night mode that turns the white pages black and the black words white.
And that’s just a start. Nokia Reading will get more updates in the coming months, including audio books and News Stream, which is a virtual news magazine that should make reading RSS feeds simpler…
