HTC fills in more blanks about Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich updates

HTC has been pretty good about letting users know when their handsets will be receiving the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update and has just released more details for a handful of phones. With almost 20 handsets detailed with a time estimate, most of the handsets will be surfing on the latest version of the operating system by June.

If you’re rocking a Droid Incredible 2, Thunderbolt, or Desire HD, you could be waiting until August before you receive the update. By that time, Android 5.0 Jelly Bean will have already been announced, or at least previewed, as we expect to get some juicy details about the upcoming version of the OS at Google I/O 2012 in late June. While this is pretty much how it’s always been with the OS, unless you have a Nexus device, Android 4.0 itself is even more important than the Froyo update, which introduced some killer features at the time.

Unfortunately, if you’re holding onto a HTC tablet – the Flyer (EVO View 4G) or Jetstream, you won’t receive the Ice Cream Sandwich update at all. This is a pretty sad thing to hear because, well, Android 3.0 Honeycomb is a mess in a lot of ways. Other handsets with 512MB of RAM or less will also be left behind, but then again, did you really think the Cha Cha was destined for Android 4.0?

Of course, the dates are subject to change at any given moment but we’re just glad to see HTC being as transparent as they are when it comes to updating their handsets.
