Not all Android smartphone makers are equally dedicated to update their devices. Samsung and HTC are known to provide a decent support to its customers, while the likes of Motorola and LG could certainly do a better job and release their updates a bit faster.
As we stand today, Ice Cream Sandwich is installed on 7.1% of all Android smartphone. We have this information thanks to Google which updated its the platform version statistics to give us a better look at the rate of adoption across the board.
Gingerbread (version 2.3.x) is leading the way, with 65% of all devices running this version of Android. At 19.1%, Froyo (version 2.2.x) holds the second spot, leaving the third one for Android 4.0.x.
As for other Android versions, Cupcake (1.5) has 0.3%, Donut (1.6) – 0.6%, Eclair (2.1) – 5.2%, and Honeycomb (3.x) – 2.7%.
