Like its competitor HTC, LG is turning away from tablets and focusing on smartphones for its mobile strategy. Ken Hong, a spokesman for the Korean manufacturer, told Bloomberg that “We’ve decided to put all new tablet development on the back burner for the time being in order to focus on smartphones.”

LG has made a few tablets, including the Optimus Pad which launched alongside several high-profile Optimus-branded smartphones. Sales figures for LG’s tablet line are not known, but they are likely low. Apple’s iPad dominates the tablet market and companies like IDC predict the iPad’s lead will only grow in 2012. As a result, there’s not a lot of room for new products to compete.
