Telerik is unveiling a new app for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad called Test Studio that lets developers run automated tests on their mobile or web apps right on the device with ease.

The ability to run these types of automated tests is crucial for developers to maintain speed and stability within their apps. It means when they update code, they can simply run the test again to check for new bugs.

“The explosive growth of the iOS application development market calls for a solid testing solution that ensures apps are of outstanding quality in order to stand out from competitors and raise the bar in user experience,” said Christopher Eyhorn, executive vice president of Telerik’s Testing Tools Division. “Telerik seized the opportunity to develop a leading-edge solution for testing web, native and hybrid apps without jailbreaking the device. Test Studio for iOS is an advanced, yet easy to use and deploy testing solution for iOS apps.”

The devices utilizing Test Studio don’t need to be jailbroken, unlocked, or modified in any way. It just needs to be a regular iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad running at least iOS 4.0. The app supports testing web apps, but can also test native and hybrid apps if the developer downloads a small extension on the Mac. Because Test Studio doesn’t use image-based recording, individual steps within tests can be updated at any time. Testers can share comments and screenshots of the results as well.

Test Studio is available for free in the App Store right now and the tool for testing native apps can be downloaded from Telerik’s website.
