After releasing an iPhone app, WinZip is going for the Android users, obviously betting on their sense of nostalgia many of us have for WinZip, which in case you don’t know (our younger audience) is still one of the most popular utility apps for Windows. Available as a free download — rather than a never-expiring trial version — WinZip allows you to manage ZIP files you may receive as email attachments. Support for encrypted ZIP files (including AES128 and AES256) comes included so you can safely review confidential materials from your phone or tablet. Moreover, WinZip for Android can open known file formats with third-party apps, including images, documents, spreadsheets, videos and so on.
The story, unfortunately, doesn’t end there. While we do realize this is version 1.0 and that some bugs may’ve been missed, it’s hard to imagine no one at WinZip team hasn’t noticed that tapping the back button will prompt the application to exit instead of going up a layer. That’s pretty strange and we do hope this will be fixed in the next couple of days. In the meantime, if you want to see WinZip running on your Android smartphone, hit the link below and take it from there…
