Barnes & Noble has struck a deal with DC Comics to bring their popular comics to the Nook Tablet and Nook Color users. The first batch includes more than 100 of DC’s graphic novels, including various Superman, Batman and Sandman titles, as well as the first storylines from The New 52, which is the initiative DC launched last fall to reboot all of its characters.
Alongside the partnership agreement, B&N also added a new feature to the Nook devices called Zoom View, allowing readers to zoom in on a particular panel and read novels panel-by-panel. Needless to say, this is everything but new, since ComiXology has been offering the same capability on the iPad for quite some time now.
Anyway, it’s good to see Barnes & Noble and DC Comics falling in love again. When Amazon unveiled its tablet, DC said it will exclusively offer its graphic novels on the Kindle Fire, prompting B&N to pull a number of DC titles from its bookstores. At that time, Barnes & Noble argued they will not stock physical books in its stores if they are not available in digital format. Seems that misunderstanding is behind the two companies. 😉
