AT&T Galaxy Note and Galaxy S II Skyrocket get Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich

Good news if you’re holding onto a Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket or Galaxy Note, AT&T customers, as both handsets are getting an official taste of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich today. While only two devices in the world officially support Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, Ice Cream Sandwich is still the biggest update of the mobile operating system to date and now both of these AT&T handsets can take advantage of all the new features.

The AT&T Consumer Blog gave a modest rundown of what users can expect within the Ice Cream Sandwich update:

ICS enhances the customer experience by making navigation more intuitive with a better user interface and faster browsing. The many new features include an enhanced Recent Apps shortcut to ease multitasking, new lock/unlock features including Face Unlock, improved home screen folders, a new notifications bar and an app to help you track your data usage.

There’s a lot more to love about Android 4.0, so make sure you check out our review we wrote up a while back here.

Samsung’s new Premium Suite is packaged up with the ICS update for Galaxy Note users, giving users a nice chunk of productivity tools in the new application S Note, among other nice tweaks.

The jump from Gingerbread to Jelly Bean is quite a dramatic one, but Samsung’s TouchWiz does a good job of covering up some of these new tweaks. You’ll still find the old way of adding widgets on the handsets, which is my least favorite implementation of all Android custom user interfaces, so let’s hope we see that change in the future. Nonetheless, we’re sure that the update will prove to be a very welcomed addition to users.
